Front Discs, Heating and more Bushes

Voiced by Amazon Polly

The steering rack felt fine, so a quick rub down and paint were all that were required. The bushes were recently replaced red poly bushes, so they can go back on too. The only elements that needed replacement were a U clamp and a track rod end.

Similar with the anti-roll bar. A new coat of paint and one new link.

Can you see the problem in this photo?

I only realised when trying to re-fit the calliper. A previous owner has used a flexible braided hose of the wrong length and bodged a working solution by making an additional bracket and a short copper pipe to make up for the braided hose which is too short. Whilst it worked I now have a calliper with a soft brass fitting connected directly to it. As expected the heating and cooling of the calliper had seized the brass connector. It took a blow torch and bolt extractor to remove it. Same the other side. Now replaced with braided hoses of the right length and connected to the normal bracket.

Next is the heater. Having disassembled it I found yet more bodging. A previous owner had “modified” the air direction vent with something hacked crudely from another vehicle. Im my spares store (my wife’s potting shed) I found a rusty but proper one. I replaced the felt, de-rusted and painted it. Good as new.
